Elise turned 2 months yesterday!  Wow, time is flying by!  With the passing time, we are more and more into a routine.  Elise is sleeping 8-10 hours per night and letting mommy get some good rest!  We are typically up by 6:30am and then eating/sleeping in 3 hour cycles.  The 1-2hour naps throughout the day allow mommy some time to work and do house chores!   Yeah!

The best thing is that Elise is all smiles now, especially mid-afternoon.  Check out the photos in our gallery for some shots of the adorable little smile!

Elise turns 7 weeks tomorrow!  Wow!  All is going well as mommy and Elise are settling into a routine and are more and more comfortable with the day to day things.  Breastfeeding is going very smooth and Elise has already gained almost 2 lbs from her birth weight.  She was weighed yesterday at 8lbs 9oz.

The best part is Elise is now sleeping a consistent 6 hours a night which allows mommy to get some good rest!  She also takes great naps throughout the day allowing time for laundry and cooking!

Yesterday was Elise’s one month check up with the pediatrician.  All went well.  She weighed in at 7lbs 14 ozs (20th%)and has grown already to 21.25″ long (50th %).  She is petite just like mom, but doing well otherwise. 

Her latest tricks are a tiny smile here and there and being able to hold her head up fairly well for 10 seconds or so.  She is very alert when awake and sure to show off her big blue eyes to all visitors!

Next weekend Elise will be attending her first wedding, so keep an eye out for some family photos!  Take care and have a great President’s weekend!

Wow..times flies!  Elise is growing fast and changing so much. 

Last Tuesday’s appointment was very good.  Elise gained 13oz in 8 days so the lactation nurses were happy to see that she was quickly gaining back all the weight she lost plus some! Today she weighs probably 7lbs 9oz or so. 

The item of the past week was that Elise had been spitting up quite frequently.  With our weigh-in appointment, it now appears that she was over-eating as my milk is truely flowing and Elise was gaining 1.5oz/day when all they really look for is 0.5oz-1oz/day.  So the good news there is now feedings are a bit shorter as Elise is splurping down her milk quite quickly.  This gives mommy a little more time between feedings to keep the house running and get some rest and exercise of her own.

In a couple days we’ll go in to re-weigh Elise and see if the little changes we made in her feeding routine are still getting her to gain weight, but closer to the targeted range.  So as Mommy concentrates on getting a good feeding routine, Elise is getting ready to pose for her first baby photo shoot.  This weekend Daddy and Mommy plan on taking photos for Elise’s official announcement, so keep your eyes online for more fun shots in the gallery.

Today Grandma and Grandpa Kuhlman were in town and took us all out for brunch.  Elise got all bundled up and of course came along.  She did great for her first restaurant trip and slept through it all! 

Everyone is still doing well and Elise has her next weigh-in on Tuesday morning.  We’ll update you then with how big she has gotten!

Wow!  Can’t believe that 2 weeks have passed since my water broke, yet have I really only been a mom for 2 weeks?  Funny how time passes. 

Our little Elise is doing just great!  She is feeding very well and gaining good weight everyday!  Daddy is back to work so Mommy and Elise are enjoying lots of one on one time and getting used to being at home, feeding every 3 hours and taking care of the house.  It’s a full time job for sure, but Mommy is loving it! 

Today we went to our Mom’s club and met all the other mom’s and kids for the first time!  It was great to fit right in with all the other little ones.  Our club has a little boy just 10 days older than Elise and another girl only 2 months older, so it’ll be fun as these guys grow up and are able to interact a bit more.

Day 5 is here and Mommy, Daddy and Elise are all getting used to each other and settled in!  Last night we all got some good rest as Elise is going down pretty easy and staying asleep for 2 or so hours until her next feeding.  What a great feeling to get some solid sleep even if it is in little bits here and there!

Breastfeeding is going much better than even day 2 and Elise is increasing her weigh after the standard inital weight loss of a newborn.  Mommy is feeling like she has been breastfeeding for months, not just 5 days and Elise is getting better and better at her suck.

Well, the first 48 hours are over and we are finally feeling like we can grab a few moments here and there!  Baby Elise Michele Wellman was born on 1/11/07 at 2:24pm, weighing 6lbs, 11.8 ozs and measuring 20 inches long.  Below are some details since the last post.

About one hour after my water broke, contractions started and once we had arrived to the hospital they were already less than 2 minutes apart!  As we settled in our labor and delivery room around 4am, Ryan’s mom joined us for the journey.  I was hooked up to a fetal monitor and baby Elise was found to be reacting to my contractions with farily frequent dips in her heartrate.  So doctors put mommy on oxygen and a very accurate fetal heartrate monitor and made mommy sit in bed.

As labor progressed, Elise gave us one good scare where mommy had to be put on medication to stop contractions and give Elise a break because her heartrate dropped and stayed low for about 1 and a half minutes.  Doctors rushed to our attention and mommy and baby were stablized.  Contractions returned as the medication wore off and progress continued, although a little bit slow compared to the beginning.

After about 12 hours of labor, we were able to push and an hour later, little Elise was in our arms!  Mommy and Daddy were happier than they even imagined!

Mommy and Elise were discharged from the hospital about 5pm on 1/12/07 and little Elise spent her second night at home.  Once home, brother Jack happily greeted his new sister and has been her little personal guard ever since! 

Mommy and Daddy made it through the first night at home by rotating sleep sessions successfully.  Today has been a day of many joys as Elise has started really connecting with breastfeeding, Daddy and Mommy are figuring out a system, and Elise is looking more and more adorable as every minute passes!  We’ll keep you updated!  Thanks for all the messages and support!

Well everyone!  The day is here!  My water broke about an hour ago and we were told to be in the hospital by 3:30am this morning, so I’m gathering my things and getting ready to take off, of course I can’t rest…so I’m doing little things to keep my brain busy!

Our little girl is sure to arrive in 24 hours as that is the rule hospitals use once your water breaks, so check back for news by then if you have not heard!   http://www.wellmansweb.us/baby.htm

Well time is sure flying by.  At Christmas I thought for sure I would be holding my little girl by now, but she is proving to come in her own time!  Mommy is still doing great, taking daily walks, reading lots and getting rest to fuel up for when she does arrive.

The big question this week is whose birthday will our little girl share?  Today (9th) is Aunt Alli’s Birthday, tomorrow is great Aunt Antonette’s (10th) birthday and Thursday is brother Jack’s (11th) birthday!  Anyone will for sure be happy to share…or will baby Wellman decide to have her own day and come after all these days?
